Frequently Asked Questions
If you and I were sitting face-to-face, chatting in your office perhaps, you'd look me in the eye and ask me questions.
Let me try to answer a few of those questions right here and now…
What are your qualifications as a copywriter?
For a while copywriting has been described as salesmanship in print. However, I prefer the definition by arguably the greatest living copywriter - Gary Bencivenga. He describes copywriting as salesmanship multiplied and leveraged onto different media and delivery systems.
That being said, I had my start selling advertising to businesses in the London area while in college. Then I sold tradeshow spots and business services for a stint.
After college, I decided the London property market was my quickest way to the charmed life I desired... So, I weighed my options, decided on a property company and got into the property business. For over 6 years I sold, resold, bought, rented, and had myself knee deep in the London property business.
It was while I was in property business I discovered the power of the written word.
I noticed a few of my property descriptions attracted tons more phone calls and viewings; while others got flimsy enquiries and little to no viewing activity.
So, in my bid to make sure all my property listings were buzzing with lots of enquiries and viewings, I stumbled upon a copywriting training put together by some of the ‘Who is Who’ in the direct response copywriting business… At the time, I didn’t know much about the creators - Bill Bonner (Agora), Michael Masterson, and Paul Hollingshed, but I went ahead and ordered the course.
I burned the midnight candle and studied the course non-stop until I completed it. Then I started implement what I learned to my property descriptions, brochures, and canvassing letters.
Soon, all my listings were getting a lot of attention - enquiries and viewings improved tremendously, and my sales were no.1 in the company. The last time I checked; the canvassing letters I wrote while working there is still being used in the company till this day.
My new found copywriting skills put me in good stead. When the recession hit in 2007, many businesses were struggling, while others just shut their doors. Regardless of the devastation going on around me, I was still able to make 2007 and 2008 my best years in sales and income. And I attribute much of that success to my ability to write compelling sales and marketing copy.
And meanwhile, in my spare time I was also using my copywriting skills to help businesses – around the UK, US, and Canada – sell their goods and services online for a slice of the profits.
By October 2009 the demand for my services got to a point I had to send my boss my most cherished letter yet. So, I resigned and went into my own business fulltime.
Do you have experience in the alternative health field?
1 of the main (entirely justified) complaints of alternative health clients is that copywriters deliver over the top, hypey sales copy that can't possibly be approved by compliance. Because the copy would most definitely put the client in some legal hot water if they put it out to the market. What good is copy you cannot use?
I'm not a Chiro, hypnotherapist or naturopath who turned into a copywriter. I've spent most of my adult life in sales and marketing: belly to belly, toe to toe, and face-to-face selling to real human beings, overflowing with desires, emotions, and fears for the future. People just like me.
So, what makes me uniquely equipped to write copy and create marketing for alternative health clients?
It's not just my ability to write persuasive copy, or my market savvy…
The fact is, I'm an alternative health buyer. I'm a dyed in wool believer in alternative health remedies.
I invest my hard earned money in alternative therapies - from natural supplements, super foods, fitness training DVD, and physical therapy (like acupuncture massages) just to name a few.
No one knows your market, like your market.
And I already am the ideal prospect you want to market to.
What kinds of assignments/projects do you handle?
I cover the full range of copywriting services you will need to create a supercharged, high converting, sales generating marketing funnel and web presence.
About 80% of my business is helping alternative health companies connect, compel and communicate with the market in ways that tug heartstrings and open wallets.
I do this using a varied assortment of marketing communications, including ad copy, video sales letters (VSLs), advertorials, emails, articles/blog posts, newsletters, landing pages, webpages, white papers, and SEO web content.
My specialty is my ability to create clear, credible, persuasive copy interwoven with unique stories that are embedded with powerful psychological triggers which hypnotically compel your audience to take action.
I am able to unearth the "cool" and "sexy" in a somewhat boring product, so your prospects continuously salivate to get their hands on it. Some of my clients also appreciate my ability to break down complex and complicated topics into simple metaphors that anyone can understand. And this makes it easy for me to pick apart complex topics or mechanisms, and explain it in ways even a 10 year old can grasp.
You never need to worry about your copy sounding to academic and boring when it comes to explaining the technical side of your product or service.
Do you offer consulting services?
In addition to writing copy, I also offer my services to a couple of clients as a consultant. I help them plan their campaigns - complete marketing funnel strategy, architecture, and creation. My clients are always thrilled to get targeted advice that works - at an affordable fee - with the bulk of my fee tied to performance.
Your fee schedule lists price for a 'Website Audit'. What's that?
As you would already know, having a beautiful looking website doesn't guarantee your success online. With a strategic website audit, my clients are provided an objective review of their website; this includes the homepage, about page, and all other complimentary pages. However, you may choose the specific pages you want me to audit. It's up to you.
When you order a website audit, you get a written report of 2 or more singlespaced typed pages, with relevant marked up screenshots which identify problem areas. I'll show you what's good about it, what works… What doesn't work… And what should be changed, to help you achieve your goals… And how. My audit covers your website copywriting, SEO, effective design, strategy, conversion optimisation, and your offer. It also includes specific directions for revisions and improvements, although I don't rewrite copy or implement the improvements for you under this arrangement.
A website audit is ideal for clients who want a 2nd opinion on a newly launched website, a grossly underperforming one, or if you need fresh ideas to inject into an existing site which you know could be performing better. An audit also enables you to sample my expertise at far less cost than you'd pay to have me write your entire website, or create a sales funnel from scratch.
Speaking of money. What does it cost to hire you for a project?
Frankly, I don't consider my marketing and copywriting services as a "cost" to my clients. I prefer to consider it an investment in your business. And as an investor in your business, you expect a return on every money invested. I am confident that every project or assignment we do together would give you a healthy return on your investment (ROI), or I'll rewrite it, tweak it, re-strategise it until it does.
Now we've clarified that… For any assignment/project; sales letter, an advert, advertorial, landing page, website, marketing funnel - just let me know what you have in mind, or what you want to achieve and I'll quote you a price. I have also enclosed an estimate of my fee schedule which gives typical prices for a variety of projects.
How long will it take you to write copy for me?
Ideally, I'd like to have 2 to 4 weeks to work on copywriting projects. This gives me the time to research, conceptualise, write, polish, edit, and revise until I am happy with every single word.
Nevertheless, I realise you can't always wait that long. So if you require an urgent job, just indicate that when you order, stating the date you need to receive your copy by. If I can accommodate that, I'll let you know. And if I take on the job, I guarantee that you will have the copy on your desk by the deadline, or sooner.
Regardless of the urgency or tight deadlines, the copy I submit to you will always receive my usual thorough and professional attention. You can count on that.
What happens if we want you to revise the copy?
If you desire any improvements or tweaks to my already delivered work, just let me know what you want improved and what the changes are, and I'll make them fast. They'll be no charge for rewriting. Revisions are included in the fee we agree for the assignment, as long as they're assigned within 30 days of you receiving my delivered work. And are not based on a change in the assignment, which was made after my completed work has been submitted.
Most clients are delighted and ecstatic about my work when they receive it. But if for some reason you're not 100% thrilled, I'll revise the copy according to your specific guidelines… all at my expense.
